* This is the bell at St Savva-Storozhevsky Monastery in Zvennigorod.

** This bell was designed to replace the famous Tsarsky (Royal) Bell at Trinity-Sergius Lavra (see list of Great Bells). However, another foundry won the political competition (read the story), and its eventual placement is not yet decided.

Standard and Custom Iconography and Inscriptions:

All bells are cast with three oval medallion icons (choose from existing list) and a standard inscription ("Holy Holy Holy" in Greek, Slavonic, and English) around the shoulder of the bell. On bell No. 4 and larger you can add icons to the side field of the bell, and custom inscription to the skirt; for No. 4, this will cost an additional $200 if icon is in stock, or $500 if not. There is no charge, however, for custom icons and inscriptions on bells No. 5 and larger. Add time for custom work depending on complexity.

Suggested sets:

Choose the largest bell you want first, and then match a selection of smaller ones to it— tone-wise, that 's easier to do than trying to start with the smallest. Choose any sequence in the same musical key.

It is recommended to include at least No. 4 with custom iconography and inscription for your parish. Consequently, bells No. 0-1-2-3-4 are a popular beginning set.

A set of 7 bells might include Nos. 1-2-3-4-5-7-10; a set of 9, Nos. 1-2-3-4-5-7-8-10-15.

Fundraising Observation:

Keep in mind that 50 donors can raise $6,000 in 6 months by contributing only $5 or about 2 lattes per week, even without any special memorial donations! In other words, for almost nothing you can order a basic set of Russia’s finest traditional bells in about 3 months with 50% down, and have them completely paid for by the time they arrive, some 3 to 6 months later.
